How a verdict is earned

Every entry gets one honest verdict — Worth It or Skip It — and a real score out of 100. No hedging, no "early lean." If a book earns a Skip, we say why and point you to a better option.

The receipt

Every score shows its work. Each evidence source is a line-item with its weight, ruled to a total — expert and editorial reviews, sanctioned catalog data, and real reader sentiment, blended to one number. You can always see exactly how the verdict was reached.

Signals, not stars

We don't average star ratings. We weigh the evidence about a book from sources we trust, discount manipulation, and calibrate to a shared 0–100 scale so every entry lines up against every other.

Creators only ever earn a yes

A book or show can get a Skip It. A creator never does. The Penny Approved list is who we trust, never who we don't — anyone who doesn't clear the bar simply isn't listed. Every approved creator is framed as education, not personalized advice, with affiliate links disclosed.

Honest by design

Verdicts are independent of any partnership. Affiliate links are always disclosed on the entry and never influence the thumbs. Trust is the product.
